Abstract
This
study
examines
the
implications
of
bilingualism
for
psychotherapy
. The
study
explores
the
possible
advantages
of
using
one
language
over
another
in the
course
of
psychotherapy
. The
researcher
analyzed
the
treatment
outcomes
for
30
bilingual
patients
diagnosed
with
post-traumatic
stress
disorder
.
Each
of the
bilingual
patients
had a
fluent
understanding
of
English
as a
second
language
,
which
was the
language
used
for the
initial
round
of
therapy
. The
results
were
compared
to a
second
round
of
therapy
which
was
conducted
using
their
native
language
and a
control
group
of
30
monolingual
speakers
, also
diagnosed
with
PTSD
